Women - Strongest among all
Why do I or anyone think that women are the strongest above all. Let's start by saying that they have the power to give birth to the strongest Men but that is not the only reason of me bringing this topic in front of you all.
There are stories I am going to share with you which has brought lot of shine in my life and I am sure they will bring lot of motivation and strength in yours as well. These stories tell one thing at the end.. You are strong and you can fight it.
I met a girl in South Africa who worked as a receptionist in one of the well known companies. She was a finance graduate but because of the lack of the experience she didn't get a good job right away and to support her family's financial needs she started her carrier as receptionist with a dream that she can move ahead from this position.I observed her routine which she use to follow very strictly. I had never seen her leaving her desk in office hours.
I was new in the country and didn't have many friends and fortunately we shared a table once in the afternoon while having lunch, that was the start of her story. I introduced myself and she introduced herself.
She: Hi I am Loreto.
Me: Sam.
She: Are you new here? I haven't seen you earlier.
Me: Yes, I have recently moved here hopefully for couple of years and will see after that.
She: That's good to hear. I have been working here from almost a quarter now. It's a good place to work.
Me: Yes, I liked the environment and it's a nice place.
Time went on and we became good friends. But we were usually limited to our meetings at lunch time. But that day was different, I had gone through a tough meeting in office and my mood was also not in a good shape but as she saw me going out of the campus she knew something is not right and instantly she called me.
She: Hey, what's up?
Me: Hey, nothing, going as usual.
She: Are you okay? I saw you going out of campus and I could see something wrong today.
Me: Yea, bad day in office.
She: Not sure if I can ask you this or not, but can you drop me home today?
Me: Yea sure, not a problem.
She: Cool coming to parking now.
She sounded very casual and since we were friends it was kind of fine for me as well.
She: Hey, Sorry I made you wait.
Me: It's okay, it wasn't for long.
She guided me towards her place which wasn't far from office but when we reached there it wasn't actually her place. It was a gaming alley where there were different types of games but she took me straight to shooting place.
She: I have already booked and paid for it, so you can't back out now.
Me: You don't need to do it. It was just a bad day at office.
She: Yup, but I couldn't tolerate that sadness on your face.
She helped me cheer up my mood and I was very happy at the end of the day. We made a plan to meet over the weekend and she told me that this day is purely dedicated to me. Whatever I want do that day we can plan that.
So we started the Saturday morning with a movie show followed up by brunch at a Brooklyn mall which was kind of very nice. Then we planned to went on a drive and end the day by having beer at my place.
She: Do you have a girlfriend in India?
Me: Nope, I live my life as a free bird, can't put myself in commitment.
She: That's actually good, commitment and all is just shit. We should never be in relationship.
Me: Why do you say so?
She: Nothing, I don't want to spoil the evening dear.
Me: Hey, I expect us to be truthful to each other else what is the fun of having this friendship.
She: Not sure, from where shall I start, my life has been full of shit.
Me: Why do you say so? You can tell me anything right?
She: okay.
She: I was raped when I was 13.
Me: Shockingly. What? How? I mean who was he?
She: My uncle, he use to come to our place very often. He was like a father to me.
Me: Hey if you are not comfortable, we can close this topic here itself.
She: No, I never want to forget what happened with me, every pain I have ever felt should remain ignited as fire so that I know what I don't want other to suffer.
Me: How did that happen, if you don't mind me asking.
She: It was a usual day and I was alone at home, he took me to the room and forced his penis inside my mouth, when I struggled he throw me toward a wall and insert it inside. I never want to forget and forgive, what he did.
Me: It's unbearable for me to even think about it. Didn't you tell this to your parents.
She: He gave me some cash and told me to give it to my mom and forget about whatever has happened today. That was just the start of my struggle within this men oriented world.
Me: What do you mean?
She: That's not the only time I have been raped.
Silence from my end. She gulped the beer till the bottle base was high up in the air.
She: After opening another beer, I was 16 and had a boyfriend who I thought is the best thing happened to me.
Me: What happened?
She: We use to do lot of clubbing and parties at his place. I knew all of his friends and one of his friend tried to be over smart with me many times but I always kept him away. So one day we partied till late and planned to get wasted at my boyfriend's place. I was completely drunk by the time party was over so I went to my boyfriend's room to sleep and when I woke up in the middle of the night his friend was sleeping next to me and neither of us was wearing any clothes and I could sense that I have been fucked 'literally'.
Me: That's unbelievable.
She: No the unbelievable part was when I heard the conversation between my boyfriend and his buddy. He was telling my boyfriend that how good I was and how he enjoyed fucking me.
And he handed over some cash to my boyfriend as well which was good enough for me to understand what was the deal between them.
Me: You really have suffered a lot. It's difficult for a woman to come out of trauma from one rape and it happened with you twice.
She: Not twice my friend, it happened one more time with me.
Me: No that can't be possible.
She: It did happened, if you don't want to listen I can stop.
Me: No, please I really want to know.
She: My professor who helped me getting my studies done is a great person but not his dad. I use to go to his place for extra classes, he was helping me with my studies and I felt he is the person without whom I couldn't complete my degree.
He was genuinely a great guy, but one day when I went in, only his father was at home and he told me to wait for my teacher. I never thought that he would grab me and rape me then and there itself. When my teacher came home, he saw my condition and begged me to not press charges on his dad. He has a good reputation and he didn't want to spoil it. He told me that he can give me money, grades anything but I should just forget the incident. I told him that I won't press charges not because I want money or something but rather because of him.
Me: I have no words to express my anger right now but rather I have one question. After being gone through all this how can you be so calm and composed. Don't you feel anger for those guys?
She: Believe me I am very angry but right now I am not within those people anymore and the one with I am right now doesn't deserve punishment for other people's sins. That time has already being passed and building my personality based on all those incidents would give me depression and insecurity. Should I feel bad that I got raped and I couldn't do anything. What I can do now is bring awareness within the people and by making sure that others doesn't go through same shit I have been through. That should be my personality, People should remember me as a person who cared and not the one who didn't.
That one evening left reasonable amount of impact on me and how I want to shape up my future. A young girl who hasn't even started her career yet thinks big on bringing awareness in the people about the incidents she has gone through. Every incident which could leave a credible amount of impact to anyone's life, to make her mentally and physically incapable to do anything good in her life but this one person converted those incidents into her strength to take her life forward.
It requires strength to fight the world against you and after going through incidents like this, It is really "Incredibly Amazing".
Some of the statistics I pulled from internet.
In 2017/18, a total of 50,108 sexual offences were recorded by the police in South Africa up from 49,660 in 2016/17. The majority of the sexual offences recorded were rapes.
Please let me know what impact does this story had on you and feel free to reach out to me if you want to share your story. I promise to keep the name anonymous in case you don't feel comfortable sharing your name.
